Beijing-Pyongyang celebrate diplomatic relations

The neighboring nations have grown closer in recent years while South Korea and the U.S. have spurned ties with North Korea. South Korea has insisted North Korea take responsibility for skirmishes between the two states in 2010 which cost 50 South Korean lives. Following a fact finding mission a month ago the U.S. is mulling sending much needed humanitarian aid for North Korea, a move Seoul views with caution.

China recently signed fresh infrastructure development deals for North Korea’s main East coast port and a free trade development zone near Pyongyang. The U.S. has been pressuring China to bring North Korea back to multi-lateral denuclearization talks, seemingly abdicating its once dominant role. On waning U.S. power, American military leaders appear defensive.
